Notes & News

Due to space restrictions, please view the Classifieds page for all rodeo and horse related clinics that are not directly related to the North Dakota High School Rodeo Association.

Remember that you can turn in fundraiser money at any time! When you send money in the mail, make sure you note what you are sending it for--and e-mail or call to make sure it arrived! All fundraising money or returned items must be in by the New Salem rodeo.

The National Rulebook is to be used for two years--2008-2010; they will not be reprinted next year due to costs. The new rulebooks were available at all fall rodeos and will be in the spring also. Make sure you pick a copy up and try to not lose it!

Those interested in the queen contest, please contact Lyn James (701-523-3538) Lyn has been the queen coordinator for the state finals for 18 years, and we want to thank her for her devotion to this task!

Each year the National High School Rodeo Association sponsors an Association of the Year contest; each state is encouraged to keep a scrapbook of newspaper articles and photos, events, etc. for the year. The "album" is entered into the contest at the NHSRA Finals Rodeo in Farmington and all entries are judged and prizes awarded. If anyone is interested in taking on this project, please contact the state office. Here is a .pdf of the contest requirements! We also need someone to spearhead the state basket that will go into a silent auction at Nationals with proceeds going to the NHSRA Foundation Crisis Fund.

NDHSRA members and or parents, if you are up for a creative challenge for an excellent cause we need you!

We are looking for a few creative people to put together a North Dakota basket offering to be taken to GILLETTE, WY during the NHSRA Finals in July of 2010.

Each year, every state or province that participates in the NHSRA is encouraged to donate a basket that represents their state. The "baskets" are rarely a basket, more so a creative container that is within the size limitations... the offerings within the basket are comprised of many interesting items, ranging from art work, ND foods, western gear, handmade tack, ND jewelry etc... that we have been fortunate to have people donate or sell at a discount. Although the baskets can be filled with whatever you wish!

The baskets are silently bid on during the NHSRA Finals which will be held in Gillette, WY in July 2010 the baskets are also voted on for best of show. ND's basket received reserve Best of Show in 2006 and raised over 1000.00 dollars alone!!! The donated baskets will be on display and silently bid on during the NHSRA finals but can be bid on by anybody that loves the sport of rodeo early by contacting a NDHSRA student or adult board member, before the NHDSRA finals starts in New Mexico. All the monies raised from the silent auction is put towards the NHSRA Crisis Fund which is available to all NHSRA members. The auction concludes towards the end of the finals.

If you would be willing to head up this project or have an item you would like to donate, we'd love to hear from you. Some ND kids have benefited from this fund in the past--

The National High School Rodeo Association established the NHSRA Crisis Fund in April 1995. The purpose of the fund is to provide financial assistance to offset the costs associated with an injury or death sustained by a NHSRA member at a sanctioned high school rodeo or while traveling to or from a high school rodeo.

As of October 2002, the NHSRA Crisis Fund had funds in excess of $108,000. Contributions, donations and memorials to the fund are greatly appreciated and are tax-deductible. Contributions should be made payable to the NHSRA Crisis Fund and sent to the NHSRA, 12001 Tejon, Suite 128, Denver, CO 80234.
The NHSRA Crisis Fund For additional information on the NHSRA Crisis Fund or to receive an application and criteria for payments, please contact the NHSRA National Headquarters at: crisisfund@NHSRA.org

The fundraising information has been updated for 2009-2010. Call or e-mail if you need more calendars or raffle tickets! You can sent money and ticket stubs in to the office as you sell them. Remember that you are responsible for the cost of the items that you take to sell; if you do not return unsold items, you will have to pay for them!

NOTE--due to the cost of postage on the calendars, I am only sending them out in units of 10!

Contestants who are interested in the queen contest can contact Lyn James in Bowman. Her phone number is 701-523-3538.  Contestants who are interested in the Jr. High Wrangler Division Queen Contest can contact Tammy Backhaus in Bismarck.  Her phone numbers are 701-258-5368(home) or 701-328-2526(work).

PLEASE send thank you notes to the sponsors for the awards that you receive.  Many times a short note saying "thank you" is the key to that sponsor's continued support

We can't forget how important our saddle, buckle and other sponsors are.  Take the time to thank them and let them know how much we appreciate their support!
