Gayle Smith
Gayle Smith, Trotters, ND was a rodeo mom; not just to her sons Chad, Casey & Cody--but to all of the kids rodeoing! She loved watching her sons and husband, Gene, rodeo and cheered for everyone that went in the arena. Gayle's family is sponsoring a memorial buckle to the rookie cowgirl
of the year.
Stevie Kulseth Memorial Buckle- Donated by the Gus Kulseth family in Loving Memory of Stevie Kulseth awarded in 2010 to Shelby Jorgenson, Williston.
Stevie Beth Kulseth (1987 – 2006)
Stevie was very outgoing and loved people, especially kids. She loved her sisters very much; she could just look at Shannon or Kellie and they would burst out laughing. For a father, Laverne found that scary at times! She loved rodeo and all the friends she met being a part of this great sport. This buckle is awarded in Stevie’s name to a female North Dakota High School Rodeo Association competitor who has tried hard but has never won a buckle.
Clay Cooper Memorial Buckle- Donated by Tom and LaVal Cooper in Loving Memory of Clay Worden Cooper, awarded in 2010 to Clay Ferebee, Halliday.
Clay Worden Cooper (1969 – 1987)
All Clay ever wanted was to be a cowboy. He grew up in chaps and a gun in holster. When he graduated to roping nothing was safe. He roped the dummy, the dog, and his mother. In high school he tried other sports, football and basketball, but rodeo was what he wanted to d65 If there were steers around to be roped, Clay and Herman, his rope horse were there. He was in a local roping club with some seasoned cowboys, high school rodeo, and other area rodeos. He was killed in a car accident a month after graduating from high school on his way home from a rodeo. The one thing Clay never won was a buckle. That was what he wanted more than anything. This memorial buckle is awarded in Clay’s name to a male NDHSRA competitor who shows exemplary sportsmanship and try in the roping arena, who has never won a buckle in High School Rodeo.
